OBX Marathon

Blimey Rules!

Course Policy
Runners and walkers will be staged in corrals based on predicted finish.

Particpants must maintain a pace of a 16:30 minutes in order to meet the course time limit and "beat the bridge" at mile 22 before it closes to race participants at 1:50 PM.

The courses are point-to-point. The fastest marathoners will pass half marathoners on the mutual part of the course. Half marathoners must give marathoners the right of way, and should stay to the right of the road.

No bandits, strollers, bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, wagons or pets allowed on the course.

HEADPHONES AND IPODS: The OBX® Marathon follows USA Track and Field rules regarding the use of headphones and other equipment on the course. Rule 144, Section 3B states: The visible possession or use by athletes of video or audio cassette recorders or players, TV's, CD or DVD players, radio transmitters or receivers, mobile phones, computers or any similar devices in the competition area shall not be permitted.

Race numbers, timing chips and participant t-shirts must be picked up at the Expo and will not be mailed.

Runners will use the Winning Timing Chip system.  No other timing chip may be worn.  Timing chips must be worn properly to receive a finish time and be eligible for awards.  Information about the Winning Time System can be found at www.lin-mark.com/chipinfo.htm.  Finish volunteers will assist you in removing the chip after you cross the Finish line. If by chance our volunteers do not retrieve your chip, and you take it home, please click here for chip return instructions. You must return your chip after the race or be assessed $25.

Refund Policy
All net proceeds go to charity and are non-refundable and non-deferrable.

Transfer Policy

Changing races will be allowed and can be done by emailing your request to eventcoordinator@obxmarathon.org until October 1st.  After that, you may make switches at the EXPO Solution Booth November 7th and November 8th.  A $25 fee will apply and if you are switching from the half marathon to the full marathon, an additional registration fee of $15 will apply.

If you cannot run and you know someone who wants to run in your place, a switch in registration can be done at the Solution Booth at our Expo (November 7th or 8th) during packet pick-up.  Email your request, along with the name of the replacement runner, prior to October 1st to avoid transfer fees.  Please print the transfer confirmation and give to the replacement runner as receipt of request.  Requests can be emailed to eventcoordinator@obxmarathon.org.  After October 1st, email requests will not be accepted and a $25 transfer fee will apply.

We require the replacement runner to bring a signed release from you so that we can switch registration, including race bib and timing chip to the new runner. This is very important to have the correct name, age and gender assigned to a bib number with regard to age group awards, etc., and we will not authorize a switch without the signed release from you.
