Tickets will be on sale (see below) for the original piece of artwork that won the 3rd Annual OBX® Marathon Adult Art Competition.

“Crash In” by Shirley Ruff
Local Outer Banks artist, Shirley Ruff, created the winning piece of artwork that will grace the cover of the 3rd Annual OBX® Marathon Official Race Program and create posters for retail sale now (see Race Store) and at the events scheduled for Veteran’s Day weekend. The drawing will take place at the OBX® Marathon Awards Ceremony in downtown Manteo on November 9, 2008. Here are a few words from the artist herself.
“I wanted to make runners emerging from a big wave. The close juxtaposition of the runners to the Atlantic Ocean adds energy and importance to the OBX® Marathon. The runners coming through the shoots completed the first OBX® Marathon in the rain. These runners embodied all the energy, power and endurance of the ocean waves. Inspired, I used Dave Matthews lyrics “Crash In” for the title, hence the slight likeness of the front-runner to Dave. I was driven to create this image and I hope you can share my excitement!”
Tickets are $10 each, only 1,000 tickets will be sold, and can be purchased at the EXPO, or you may stop by the marathon office during normal business hours, located at: 2510 S. Croatan Hwy., MP 10.5, Nags Head (next to Stan White Realty in the Dare Education Foundation/Outer Banks Relief Foundation office).
