Is there a deadline for registration?
Registration will close once runner limits are met (3500 for the Half; 2500 for the Marathon). We will post a notice on the homepage if/when registration is approaching our runner limits.
Are the courses certified?
Yes, by USA Track & Field (USATF). The certification numbers for the courses are:

Is this race a Boston Qualifier?
Yes. We will forward race results to the Boston Athletic Association for runners who meet Boston's qualifying standards.
What time do the races Start?
Marathon - 7:20 AM
Half Marathon - 7:00 AM
Is there a time limit?
3:00 PM for both courses.
Are ipods/headphones allowed?
The OBX® Marathon follows USA Track and Field rules regarding the use of headphones and other equipment on the course. Rule 144, Section 3Bstates: The visible possession or use by athletes of video or audio cassette recorders or players, TV's, CD or DVD players, radio transmitters or receivers, mobile phones, computers or any similar devices in the competition area shall not be permitted.
This rule will be enforced for runners competing for prize money.
Where will the races Start?
Marathon - The Woods Rd., near Dominion Power in Kitty Hawk.
Half Marathon - E. Baltic St. and US 158 (the Bypass) in Nags Head.
Where will the races Finish?
Downtown Manteo on Fernando St. near Queen Elizabeth Ave.
Will this event be chip timed?
Yes, using the Winning Time Chip system, provided by Lin-Mark Computer Sports. Chips are rented and must be returned at the Finish. If you do not finish the race or are not able to run, time chips must be returned to Lin-Mark (the envelope with your race number and timing chip serves as timing chip return envelope). If you did not keep this envelope, please enclose chip in bubble wrap, then mail with sufficient postage to:

Where do I pick up my race number, timing chip and t-shirt (e.g. packet pick-up)?
Participants must pick up their race number, timing chip, participant t-shirt and race bag in person at the EXPO on Friday, November 7th or Saturday, November 8th. There is no race day packet pick-up. To pick up packets, registered participants must show a valid photo ID or their www.Active.com registration confirmation. Will there be transportation to both Starts?
Yes. Shuttle service will be available to transport runners to the Start and back to their car after the Finish. The service is free to all registered runners. A shuttle schedule will be available online closer to race day and included in the race program, found in your race bag.
Will there be a Gear Bag service?
Yes, you will receive a gear bag and label in your race bag at packet pick-up. The gear bags may be used for transporting your desired gear to the Finish. All gear must fit in the bags...no backpacks, duffels, etc. Make sure you fill out your tag and follow the instructions given. UPS will be at the Starts to collect your bags and take them to the Finish...thanks, UPS!
Will there be adequate rest room facilities at the Start and along the course?
Yes, there will be port-a-potties at the Starts, the Finish and about every 2-3 miles along the course.
How many water stops are there on the course?
Water will be available at all odd mile markers along the marathon course, and all even mile markers along the half marathon course.
Energy Gels?
Yes, assorted flavors. Marathon — at mile 13, 17, 21 and 23; Half Marathon — mile 4, 8 and 10.
Gatorade?
Yes, in various flavors. Marathon — at mile 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25 and the Finish; Half Marathon — mile 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 and the Finish.
Is there a Post Race Party?
Yes! You can "Party Like a Pirate!" in the streets of Manteo! Runners, along with family and friends are invited to join in the celebration in downtown Manteo which will include food, fun, live music and two awards ceremonies.
Will Medals be given out to finishers?
Yes.
What about Awards?
Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for the Open (Public) Division in the Marathon and Half Marathon. Art awards will be given to the top three females and males in the Half Marathon Wheelchair Division.
