Is there a deadline for registration?
Registration will close once runner limits are met (3500 for the Half; 2500 for the Marathon). We will post a notice on the homepage if/when registration is approaching our runner limits. Otherwise, registration will remain open until November 7th, and can be done in person at the EXPO.

Yes, by USA Track & Field (USATF). The certification numbers for the courses are:

Is this race a Boston Qualifier?
Yes. We will forward race results to the Boston Athletic Association for runners who meet Boston's qualifying standards.
How tall is the Bridge?
The Washington-Baum Bridge is 1.05 miles long, 82' tall (from the surface of the water), with a 650' climb to the top at a 4% grade.
What time do the races Start?
Marathon - 7:20 AM
Half Marathon - 7:00 AM
Is there a Time Limit?
3:00 PM for both courses.
Are the races Walker-Friendly?
Yes. For the marathon, you must maintain a 17:10 pace in order to "beat the bridge" by 1:50 PM and reach the Finish line by 3:00 PM.
Are Ipods/Headphones allowed?
Yes.
Where will the races Start?
Marathon - The Woods Rd., near Dominion Power in Kitty Hawk.
Half Marathon - E. Baltic St. and US 158 (the Bypass) in Nags Head.
8K - In Kill Devil Hills, near the First Flight Middle School complex.
Fun Run - In Kill Devil Hills, at the First Flight High School track.

What is a Wear-Your-Number shirt?
It's a high quality technical shirt printed with your Outer Banks Marathon or Half Marathon race number, race logo, and your name or a personalized message. This is an official race shirt and can be worn in place of the normal paper number. The shirt also makes a great race souvenir! Supplies are limited and must be ordered by October 15th. Will this event be Chip Timed?
YES! New For 2009...the Chronotrack Timing System, provided by Lin-Mark Computer Sports. The Chrontrack D-tag will be attached to your race bib and the D-tag must be removed from the bib and attached to your shoes, as shown here . NOTE: Championship Chips cannot be used for the races as the D-tag technology is different. You must use the Chronotrack D-tag

Where do I pick up my race number and t-shirt (e.g. packet pick-up)?
Participants must pick up their race number, participant t-shirt and race bag in person at the EXPO on Friday, November 6th or Saturday, November 7th. There is no race day packet pick-up. To pick up packets, registered participants must show a valid photo ID or their www.Active.com registration confirmation. Click here for EXPO location and directions .
Will there be Transportation to both Starts?
Yes. Shuttle service will be available to transport runners to the Start and back to their car after the Finish. The service is free to all registered runners. A shuttle schedule will be available online closer to race day and included in the race program, found in your race bag.
Will there be a Gear Bag service?
Yes, you will receive a gear bag and label in your race bag at packet pick-up. The gear bags may be used for transporting your desired gear to the Finish. All gear must fit in the bags...no backpacks, duffels, etc. Make sure you fill out your tag and follow the instructions given. UPS will be at the Starts to collect your bags and take them to the Finish...thanks, UPS!
Will there be adequate rest room facilities at the Start and along the course?
Yes, there will be port-a-potties at the Starts, the Finish and about every 2-3 miles along the course.
How many water stops are there on the course?
Water will be available at all odd mile markers along the marathon course, and all even mile markers along the half marathon course.
Energy Gels?
Yes, assorted flavors will be available at key areas along the marathon course.
Gatorade?
Yes, in various flavors.
Marathon — at mile 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 25
Half Marathon — at mile 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12.
Is there a Post Race Party?
Yes! You can "Party Like a Pirate!" in the streets of Manteo! Runners, along with family and friends are invited to join in the celebration in downtown Manteo which will include food, fun, live music and two awards ceremonies.
Will Medals be given out to finishers?
Yes.
What about Awards?
Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for the Open (Public) Division in the Marathon and Half Marathon. Art awards will be given to the top three females and males in the Half Marathon Wheelchair Division.
