First Flight 5K
PARKING
Parking for the First Flight 5K is available at First Flight High School, located across from the Wright Brother National Memorial.
First Flight High School: 100 Veteran’s Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948

DIRECTIONS
5K Parking: From Hwy. 158, turn west onto Colington Rd./W. Ocean Bay Blvd. at milepost 8.  Turn left onto Veterans Drive.  The high school is on the right.

5K Start: From the high school, follow the sidewalk to Colington Rd. and cross at the light.  Follow the bike path (heading towards the Wright Monument and Hwy. 158) to a mulch path into the park.  The Start is near the First Flight sculpture.

Flying Pirate Half Marathon
SHUTTLES & PARKING
Participants utilizing the shuttle service should arrive at their shuttle pick-up location at least 10 minutes before the first scheduled departure.  Get there early to make sure you get on the shuttle and get to the Start on time.

Runner Drop-Off:
From Hwy 158 (the Bypass) in Southern Shores, turn onto Dogwood Trail. Turn right into the parking lot of Kitty Hawk Elementary School, 16 Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, 27949.  Runner drop-off is at the school, and just a short walk to the Start.

Flying Pirate Shuttles:
Park near the Start, take a shuttle to the Start and catch a shuttle back to your car after the race OR park near the Finish, take a shuttle to the Start, run the race and then take a short shuttle back to your car.

Finish Shuttles:

GEAR BAG SERVICE
Bring a change of clothes with you to the Start, turn them over to UPS, and UPS will have them waiting for you at the Finish.

BYOB...Bring Your Own Bag!  UPS will be at the Starts to collect your bags and transport your gear to the Finish...thanks, UPS!  You will receive a label in your race bag at packet pick-up (it's a tear-off label attached to your race number). Make sure you fill out your tag and follow the instructions given.  GREEN NOTE: Our race bags will be re-usable grocery bags.  If you plan to utilize our Gear Bag Service, please use a closeable bag (zippered, drawstring, keeping the size to 16"x20" or less), like a small duffel bag or backpack, thanks!

FUEL & PIT STOPS
Water/Gatorade Stations
Water will be available at mile marker 3, 6, 9, and 11.
Gatorade will be available at mile marker 6 and 9.

Energy Station
Assorted flavors of HAMMER energy gel will be provided at mile marker 6.

In an effort to provide our runners with the highest quality energy gel, the Outer Banks Marathon has partnered with Hammer Nutrition (TM).

Port-a-Johns
Provided at the Start, the Finish and every 2-3 miles along the course.

MEDICAL
Medical Aid Stations will be at the Start, the Finish and at 1-2 locations along the course.

Can’t Finish?  Please call or ask a volunteer to call 911 if you are in need of immediate medical assistance.  First Aid tents will be located along the course. In a non-emergency situation, call (252) 423-1537 to arrange complimentary transportation.

WHERE'D THEY GO?
Lost & Found:
All lost and found items, excluding discarded clothing along the course, will be taken to the Information tent, located at the Finish.  Call (252) 216-6690 for assistance. Discarded clothing along the course will be thrown away.

Road Race Tip: If you plan to wear a jacket or pants over your running gear to the start of the race, but you will want to remove them after you warm up, then either use the Gear Bag Service at the Start, or go to the thrift store and buythese items.

Family Reunion Area:
Family members and friends can meet up with runners at the Information tent, located at the Finish, or call (252) 216-6690 for assistance in locating a family member.

RACE TIMING
Timing will be provided by Lin-Mark Computer Sports, Incof Mantua NJ utilizing the Chronotrack Timing System.  The Chrontrack D-tag will be attached to your race bib and the D-tag must be removed from the bib and attached to your shoes, as shown here .

NOTE: Championship Chips cannot be used for the races as the D-tag technology is different.  You must use the Chronotrack D-tag .

Race Results
Race Results will be updated periodically on race day. Final results will be posted at the post race party and online on race day. Awards given at the Awards ceremony on race day will not be revised, should there be a change in race results following the ceremony.

Course Records
LinMark will submit race results to USATF to review, determine and ratify any new course records set. Please allow adequate time for the application process, as this can take several months.
